Vijosa Falls

Tumbling boys leapt terrified from Vijosa’s craggy falls
into the laughing screams of their dripping friends below,
as I looked on, envious of their innocent abandon.
That evening, returning when all was quiet,
I, too, jumped, under the lone eagle’s watchful eye,
to surface,
grinning
cold,
sixteen years the younger.
