Angels Abroad

Ashen limbs contort disconnected in smoking shadows
as, above, hideous vultures spiral into high, thin skies of neglect
cawing pity like so much rain
onto the calamity below.
Next time, let me be the one watching
oblivious,
as flies crawl inside the open mouths
of so many little children lost.
